data CAPTIVE AUDIENCE, Bologna

For the month of October I am artist in residence at Nosadella Due, Bologna.
On Saturday 3rd October I performed data CAPTIVE AUDIENCE as part of an opening event at the theatre centre, Atelier Si, Bologna. The opening event was to launch the start of the theatre season themed space-time.

For data CAPTIVE AUDIENCE I moved between two drawing/painting actions that created a loop and linked two of the spaces in the theatre centre. I was based in a space called nulla (nothing) space that is a passage and waiting area before entering the theatre. In one of the actions I was attempting to draw people on my iPad as they passed through and waited to enter the theatre to watch a performance by Dewey Dell. The drawings were projected live into the upstairs cafeteria where a DJ was playing. I would then move to the second action when the space emptied out. Here I was developing a painting from a live video feed projection of what was happening in the cafeteria space. So in both actions I was attempting to capture the audience as they moved in between events or were enjoying the bar in the cafeteria. It was interesting to observe how the audience started to connect the spaces and realise that they could appear in more than one space at a time. Certain visitors then would purposefully appear in front of me or in the camera in the cafeteria to be captured.
