Google reverse image search_Judgement is painted from watching a rapid stop-motion animation compiled from reverse Google image search sequences made from using my collages as a starting point for the search. The collage series are made as a meditation exercise working with randomly selected magazine pages chosen while focussing on certain thoughts and feelings. A photograph of the collage is uploaded into a reverse Google image search. The closest image match is downloaded and then uploaded into a reverse Google Image search again. The next closest match image is downloaded and then uploaded again and so on twenty-four times. The image results are animated at 24fps and then projected as the painting source. The resulting painting is a collection of painted marks accumulated in the attempt to capture the rapidly moving image as it is rear-projected on the cotton fabric. I am interested in engaging the Google search in a seemingly random way in order to explore the vast database of images and the algorithms that make them accessible as a kind of collective unconscious.
