data capture: in the field III
Exhibition produced as part of the Dwayer International Workshop for Women, Alexandria, Egypt, 26th January to 6th February 2008
Materials: mixed media digital drawing installation (aluminum furniture, laptop computer, mirror, projector & inkjet printer)
Dimensions: variable
During the workshop I created twenty-seven portraits of the other participating artists. I mapped out a ‘compass’ on the floor indicating the directions of the countries that the participating artists were from in relation to Alexandria. When each of the artists sat for the half hour sitting, I asked them to face the direction of ‘home’. I also worked with pushing the scale of the drawing files down to the number of participants at 27x27 pixels and shifted my colour drawing space from cmyk to rgb. I then animated all the portraits together into one turning head that was projected onto the ceiling.
